Rob Hanson and his wife, Heidi Hofer, have sold the Holy Terror Building in Keystone. The building was acquired by Tom and April Hagen, owners of the award winning Rush Mountain Adventure Park.
“We’re excited to see what they’re going to do,” said Hofer. “We feel really good we’re handing it off to them. Everything they do they do so well.”
The annual Crazy Horse Spring Volksmarch is scheduled for this weekend, June 5-6 at Crazy Horse Memorial.
The volksmarch is a 6.2 mile round-trip hike from the Welcome Center of the memorial to the arm of Crazy Horse and back down.
Registration for the volksmarch occurs the day of the hike. Registration tables are located in the parking lot west of the Welcome Center near the starting line.
Two children allegedly abducted Saturday from a Custer foster home by their non-custodial mother were finally rescued near Mitchell after a several hour chase that involved multiple law enforcement agencies and a South Dakota Highway Patrol airplane.
One Wednesday a month, the tornado/emergency sirens in Custer County are tested at noon in order to make sure they are ready to go should the need for them arise.
That day came Sunday, May 23. The problem was, the sirens didn’t work and two tornadoes touched down in the county without the sirens warning of the impending danger.
That, the Custer County Commission said at its May 26 meeting, is unacceptable, and steps are being taken to make sure it does not happen again.

Custer County residents will head to the polls next Tuesday to decide who they want to represent them on various town boards as well as the Custer School District Board of Education.
There are three races for seats on the Custer City Council.

Black Hills towns are figuring out what to do with the July 1 introduction of medical marijuana to the state. Passed in November 2020, initiated Measure (IM) 26 established a medical marijuana program in South Dakota for individuals who qualify. The measure would allow patients to possess up to three ounces of marijuana.
However, the state has not implemented rules or guidelines for the new industry leaving municipalities all over the region scrambling on what to do.
Mount Rushmore National Memorial superintendent Michelle Wheatley has been very busy at her new position.
Wheatley became head of the memorial in mid- March and assumed her new role during a tumultuous time which included an early tourist and wildfire season.
Finally settled in, Wheatley describes her new role and what she loves about the Black Hills.
The Town of Keystone saw a lone act of vandalism recently according to deputy Christopher Plawman of the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.
“I don’t foresee it being an issue,” Plawman said at a recent Keystone Town Board meeting May 19, as he described the incident as one involving a distraught customer of a local business. The graffiti on the building has already been cleaned up in what was described as a “very isolated incident.”
