10 years ago, 2015 — Six former Custer High School athletes and coaches made up the first class of the Custer Athletic Hall of Fame.  The six were inducted during a ceremony during halftime of the Custer High School boys basketball game against Hill City.

Thursday, Jan. 2
5:07 p.m.: A person called 911 to report a car driving at a high rate of speed on Custer’s north 5th Street with a “butcher knife hanging out of the trunk.” A deputy found the car and determined the “knife” was a fabric strap that got slammed in the trunk.

Talley was and remains the executive director of Women Escaping A Violent Environment (WEAVE), having first become involved with WEAVE in 1988 as a volunteer...Just over two months into the job, Custer’s latest planning department head had resigned. Weller is new Custer postmaster

When Carson Weller spent his first Christmas as postmaster at the Custer Post Office this past December, he wasn’t panicked.
No, he had been there before.
Weller, Custer’s newest postmaster, had been in and out of the Custer Post Office as he worked his way up the ranks with the United States Postal Service. He knew what he was getting into.
“It was all good. I knew what to expect,” he said. “It wasn’t like a deer in headlights.”

1:36 a.m.: A strange phone call from a Hayloft Court residence turned out to have been caused by a cat knocking a phone off its perch. The cat did not require any police assistance.

As is always the case, Custer County had no lack of quotable quotes in 2024. Below is a list of some of the more memorable quotes that appeared on the pages of the Custer County Chronicle in 2024. These quotes are from the second half of the year.
“If you deny us, you’re going against honesty and truth and God and the people.” - Edward Lesnick addressing the Custer County Commission. Lesnick and his mother sought to subdivide .58 of an acre off their land to sell. County ordinance doesn’t allow for subdiving below an acre.

10 years ago, 2014 — The Custer County Sheriff’s Office was looking for information related to an armed robbery that took place in Custer. At around 3 a.m. a man entered the Corner Pantry from the convenience store side and went into the casino side, where he pulled a gun and ordered the employee into the bathroom. Once the employee was in the bathroom, the man took an unknown amount of cash out of the register...The public was invited to attend the first annual Custer High School Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the Armory.
