Both towns welcome hungry bikers

As the rally kicks up, so do the biker breakfasts that support community organizations and causes. 
This year Keystone is having a one-day Sturgis Rally Breakfast Aug. 8 from 7:30–10:30 a.m. at the Keystone Community Center at 1101 Madill St.
The event is quite unusual for two reasons—the food has all been donated by the town’s engineering firm, Interstate Engineering, and town employees are hosting the event to support the town’s old schoolhouse.

Red’s blends Mexican with barbecue

Authentic Mexican food is just a stone’s throw away in Keystone at Red’s Flying Burrito Mexican Food and BBQ. The newly-opened restaurant features outdoor and indoor seating as well as a host of house specialties with a menu to satisfy any palate.
The food can best be described as a blending of two cultures—traditional Mexican from staff who live in Mexico during the offseason with American basic barbecue. 
“It’s a little fusion between what you like on Sunday at home and what we like on Sunday at home,” said head chef Angel Rangel. 

Community kids clothing closet July 30-Aug. 1

The fifth annual Love INC (Love In The Name Of Christ) Hill City-Keystone Community Kids Clothing Closet returns this weekend to kick off the back-to-school shopping season for free.
The event is organized by Love INC in partnership with The Little White Church and other local churches and volunteers to ease the back-to-school expense for families, keeping usable clothing within the community. 
“It’s a huge community, hand-me-down event,” said Love INC organizer Natalie Cutler.

—A temporary moratorium on conditional use permits for nightly vacation rentals in residential neighborhoods was recommended by the Hill City Planning and Zoning Commission at its July 19 meeting. That recommendation now makes its way to the Hill City Common Council. The temporary moratorium, if approved, would not exceed 120 days. This would allow the planning and zoning commission to continue its work in tackling the influx of nightly vacation rentals in residential neighborhoods Hill City has seen.

Farmers market returns to Eras

Eras Event Center is hosting its second farmers market Aug. 8. The family- friendly event features craft vendors selling soaps, beeswax items, 3D printed goods and handcrafted  jewelry and  wood pieces.
Bethany Cook, director of public relations for the Black Hills Institute of Geological Research, said the idea came from one she had heard the former Prairie Berry site used to do. 
“We wanted to do something to get people to Eras to see the space. But we also wanted to create a community event to bring  people together,” Cook said.

Film crew features property owner in Keystone

There is an episode from Dubai. There is one from Cabo San Lucas. And soon there will be one from Keystone. 
“Staycation,” an award winning travel series from The Destination Channel came to Keystone July 17 to feature the unique properties of Svenmar Rentals, owned and managed by Casey McNulty.
Staycation airs nationwide on CBS and will eventually end up on livestream to Amazon, Roku and Pluto. 
“It starts local because that’s where the heart of the story is,” said Evan Michael, host and executive producer, who is based out of Los Angeles.
