Anita Buchholz

Anita Lee Buchholz, age 82, formerly of Hill City, S.D., passed away peacefully Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Fountain Springs Healthcare in Rapid City, S.D.

Anita was born February 13, 1944, in Vancouver, Wash., the oldest of three children to John and Agnes (Davis) Giedd. 

She spent her early years in Igloo, S.D., moving to Hill City then Belle Fourche, S.D., and finally back to Hill City, where she met her husband, Larry Gene Buchholz. They were married in Custer, S.D., July 18, 1963, for 39 years until his death in 2002. 

Survivors include sons, Dale Buchholz (Darcy Harford) of Redfield, S.D., Tony Buchholz of Pierre, S.D., and Neil (Tracey) Buchholz of Deadwood, S.D.; two grandsons, Braidyn (Tanah) Buchholz of Hermosa, S.D., and Gavyn Buchholz of Deadwood; as well as her sister, Rose (Jim) Ray of Arkansas.

She loved her many pets, gardening and socializing with friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Agnes Giedd; her husband, Larry; infant son, Norman; and brother, Donnie.

Visitation was March 26 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City.

Graveside service was March 26 at Hill City Cemetery.
