Voters in Hill City flocked to the polls to cast their votes for Ward I and Ward II seats on the Hill City Council. Every vote mattered as incumbent Carl Doaty retained his seat as Ward I alderman, defeating Ethan Walker by one vote, 61-60.
Officials said they are confident that since the county counted votes that the results will stand, although a recount is likely.
Doaty said he wants to thank all who voted in this election and said if he retains the win he wants voters to know he will keep working to push Hill City forward.
In the Ward II race Lori Miner defeated incumbent Gary Auch by a vote of 43-37.
Miner thanked everyone who came out to vote and noted the wonderful turnout was a “big community effort.” She heard stories about first time voters and people driving others to the polls.
Miner also wanted to thank Auch for all of his service. She hopes people will continue to take an interest in their city government.
