Election next Tuesday

Next Tuesday, June 6, is election day, and voters in the City of Custer and Town of Hermosa will vote on a new mayor, council members, town board members and a few ballot issues.
In the race for the City of Custer Mayor, incumbent Bob Brown will face challenger Gary Carr for a two-year term. The other city race is for a two-year term on the council in Ward III, as incumbent Peg Ryan will face challenger Faith Lewis.
Custer County residents will have only one thing to decide on the ballot, that being whether to declare the discharge of any treated wasterwater from the City of Custer’s wastewater treatment plant into French Creek or its tributaries within Custer County as a nuisance.
The Town of Hermosa has two races and two ballot issues to discuss, with the most crowded race in the county being for the seats on Hermosa’s Town Board. Running for the two three-year terms are Shanna Harris, Chuck Irvine, incumbent Vicki Henrichsen and Jerry Styles. For the one two-year term on the town board there are two candidates—Brad Westergard and Donna Ferguson.
The first initiated measure for the Town of Hermosa will see residents decide if there should be a limit to the number of terms and years a citizen can hold public office as a member of the town’s board of trustees.
The second initiated measure deals with whether to allow chickens for the purposes of egg production within the Hermosa municipal boundaries.
County voting will take place in the usual polling places, which can be found in the legal notices section of this newspaper.
In Hermosa, voters can cast their ballots at the United Church of Christ at 102 N. 2nd St.
Any voters with disabilities may contact each town’s respective finance office to make arrangements with voting assistance.
