Election petitions available

Election petition time is here once again, and election petitions can now be pulled for a variety of offices and seats around the county, including school board and the various town councils.
In the City of Custer, Mayor Bob Brown’s seat is up for election this spring, as are three seats on the city council. All four positions are two-year terms.
In Ward I, the seat belonging to Jeannie Fischer is up for election, while the seat belonging to Nina Nielsen is up in Ward II and the seat belonging to Peg Ryan is up in Ward III.
Circulation of nominating petitions can begin today, and petitions may be filed in the office of the finance officer located at Custer City Hall Monday through Thursday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to noon. The petitions must be filed by 5 p.m. March 28 or mailed by registered mail by 5 p.m. on March 28.
The Custer School District Board of Education also has three seats up for election.
Larry Baker, Sara Barrick and Travis Hartshorn all have seats up for election, with all three seats available being a three-year term.
Circulation of nominating petitions can begin today and can be filed in the office of the business manager located at 527 Montgomery Street between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Fridays.  Petitions must be filed no later than March 28 at 5 p.m. or mailed by registered mail no later than that same date and time.
In Hermosa, there are three seats up for election, with two being three-year terms and one being a two-year term.
The seats currently belonging to Vicki Henrichsen and Terri Schumack are set to be contested, while an open seat that became open upon the resignation of Bernhard Flug is also available, with the latter being the two-year term.
Circulation of nominating petitions can begin today and may be filed with the finance officer at the Hermosa Town Hall between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and no later than 5 p.m. March 28.
There is one seat available in Fairburn, that being a three-year term for the seat currently held by Sally Nordstrom.
Circulation of nominating petitions can begin today, and petitions may be filed in the office of the finance officer of Fairburn at 110 Lynn St. between the hours of 4-5 p.m. March 28 or between 7-7:30 p.m. March 15. Petitions may also be submitted by registered mail if postmarked by the deadline date of March 28.
At the Elk Mountain School District, two seats on the board are set to be contested, each with a three-year term. The two seats currently belong to Kevin Rosse and Jason Bradeen.
Circulation of nominating petitions may begin today and may be filed in the office of the Elk Mountain School Business Manager located at 10222 Valley Road at Dewey between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  Petitions must be filed no later than 5 p.m. March 28 or mailed to Elk Mountain School by registered mail  by that same time.  For questions call the Elk Mountain School business office at  605-749-2258.
Finally, in Buffalo Gap, there is one three-year seat available, currently held by Raymond Hussey. That election is set to be contested early, however, and nominating petitions were due by Feb. 24. Hussey was the only one to file a petition, so he will retain that seat.
