Golfers second at first home meet

The Custer High School golf team made its home debut last Friday as the Wildcats hosted the Custer Invitational at Rocky Knolls Golf Course. The team played its way to a second-place finish, finishing four strokes behind St. Thomas More. The Wildcats finished with a team total of 318, while St. Thomas More was at 314.
Wiles led the charge for the Wildcats, finishing in second with a score of 77. Medalist honors went to Vincent Vanliere of St. Thomas More, who finished at 72.
Three other Wildcats placed in the top 10, including Zayden LaPlaca who fired an 80, good for sixth place. Curtis Sorenson also shot 80 to place him in seventh, while Lane Poper finished in eighth at 81.
Other Wildcats to compete in the meet were Regan Sorenson, who finished at 86, Will Kneeland, who finished at 102, Mason Dirkes, who finished at 109, and Chayden Lewis, who shot 113.
On Sept. 10 the team was at Boulder Canyon Golf Club outside of Sturgis for the Boulder Canyon Invitational. The course is one the Wildcats won a tournament on to start the season.
This time around the Wildcats finished in fourth place at 337. The ’Cats were the top-finishing Class A team at the meet. Spearfish took team championship honors at 324.
Jackson Wiles was the ’Cats’ top finisher, as he finished in fifth place at 78. Also placing in the top 10 was Zayden LaPlaca, who fired an 82. Also golfing for Custer was Regan Sorenson, who finished at 88, Lane Poper, 89, and Curtis Sorenson, 92.
Parker Reede of Spearfish was the the medalist at the meet, firing a one under par 71.
The Wildcats head back north next Tuesday when the travel to Tomahawk Golf Course near Lead-Deadwood for the Black Hills Conference Meet. The meet is set for a 10 a.m. start.
