Keystone board approves wages

The Keystone Town Board approved various wages for town employees at its Jan. 3 board meeting. 

Public works superintendent Jerry Przybylski said his staff was “very appreciative” of the raises. Sandi McLain said she was proud of the town team and wants them to stay. Przybylski   learned that Mt. Rushmore has an arsenic-removal system and offered trustees an opportunity to tour the system with his crew. Przybylski has made a list of questions to ask Mt. Rushmore officials when the tour occurs. 

The town tabled an invoice from Black Hills Energy for a single-phase line move at Watson Park. Przybylski envisioned the line from the well would be overhead and out of the middle of the park. Trustee Will Parks noticed the invoice said the line was underground.  

The board needs clarification on whether the line will be above or below ground because below ground would require trenching at the city’s cost.

Finance officer Samantha Epler researched the cabins on trailers on Rodney Alexander’s property. The cabins are in the floodplain and by Keystone ordinance can remain there for 190 days, until June 27. McNulty requested that a letter be written to Pennington County  informing it that the cabins were moved from his property on Old Hill City Road to the Alexander property on Reed Street.

Surplus property will be for sale at Keystone City Hall until Jan. 17 on a firstcome, first-served basis. Whatever is not taken will be donated or disposed of. Items include kitchen cabinets and computer  parts.

Trustees approved a bid for countertops from Precision At Work Contractors. The black fusion countertops will cost $3,954.21 and are part of the Keystone Community Center kitchen remodel. 

“Again this is one of  the Keystone projects we’re not making money on,” said McNulty, who owns Precision at Work.

First Interstate Bank and SD FIT  were designated as the Keystone Depositories. The Hill City Prevailer was designated  as the  town’s official paper.

The town election will occur April 9. There are two open seats and petitions will be available later this month.

A ground lease with the  Battle Creek Fire Department was approved. The lease is the same as last year and allows the fire department building to sit on town property.

The next Keystone Town Board meeting takes place Jan. 17 at 6 p.m.
