Lloyd Aman
Lloyd D. Aman was born Dec. 3, 1962 and lived his entire life in Custer, S.D.
Lloyd earned his welding certifications at trade school in Casper, Wyo. He learned machining skills from Tony Schotts. Mostly, he learned by trial and error and when YouTube came along, he enjoyed learning new skills through there.
He married the love of his life, Kitty (Wilkerson) Aman July 8, 2012. Kitty shared in duties of the business with her bookkeeping skills. They enjoyed early morning walks together and car excursions on weekends. They also worked on home improvement projects together.
Lloyd began his welding/machining career while he was still in high school, working out of his garage before he and his dad built the current L&A Welding Shop in Custer. He helped his dad, Jim, building and repairing bridges for the state of South Dakota in the 1980s. Jim bid the jobs and Lloyd performed the labor.
Lloyd was always grateful for his faithful customers. He was also grateful for his co-worker Cody, who assisted with a constantly, full, daily workload. Lloyd only “vacationed” from shop work annually during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
Lloyd was a very compassionate, helpful man. He was known to drop what he was doing to help anyone in need. He rescued many elderly women who had car trouble or were unable to get into their homes.
Lloyd’s work was his hobby. He enjoyed rebuilding anything with an engine and machining parts. A special project was the 1930 Ford Model A. Lloyd also enjoyed blacksmith work, creating knives and crosses.
Lloyd died Nov. 19, 2020, at his residence in Custer. He was 57.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Freda M. Aman; father, James V. Aman; and sister, Patty Aman.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Kitty Aman of Custer; special person in his life, Cody Barker of Pringle, S.D.; stepchildren, Kyle Inouye of Seaside, Calif., and Kerstyn Inouye of Los Angeles, Calif.; sisters, Cindy (John) Daly of Box Elder, S.D., Carol (Stan) Rish of Nampa, Idaho, and Sandra (Stan) Stenson of Ingleside, Texas; brothers, Mike (Lori) Aman of Blair, Neb.; John (Peggy) Aman of Sheridan, Wyo., James R.
