After winning three games in the previous week the Hill City High School Ranger girls basketball team headed to Newell for a game against the Irrigators Feb. 2.
“Newell was a well played game by both sides,” said coach Wade Ginsbach.
After a big 18-point third quarter by Newell, the Irrigators held a 30-26 lead going into the final quarter, but in the end it was the Hill City defense that prevailed by only allowing Newell two points in the fourth quarter to win 40-32.
The Ranger girls then traveled to Case Auditorium for a game against the Hot Springs Bison Feb. 4.
After a slow start to the game, the Rangers held Hot Springs to only two points in the first half and 13 points for the game.
The Ranger girls won 31-13. This gave the Ranger girls a five-game winning streak.
However, with only four games left in their regular season, Ginsbach said the Rangers will have to rely on their defense the next couple of games.
This week the Ranger girls traveled to Douglas High School for a game against the Patriots Feb. 7.
After that, the Ranger girls will face the Lakota Tech Tatanka at home Feb. 11. The varsity game is at 3 p.m.
