The Hill City Rangers golf team dusted off its clubs to tee off at the Black Hills Conference (BHC) golf tournament at the Boulder Canyon Golf Course in Sturgis Sept. 29.
As Class B, the Rangers golf season runs in the spring while most BHC Class A and AA schools compete in the fall. Despite the difference in season, all BHC teams are invited to compete at the tournament in the fall.
The Rangers were able to secure a sixth place finish, shooting a team total of 345. Breylon Rahn shot a seven over 79 to tie for seventh place overall and was named to the all-conference team.
“Breylon has the ability to score well, even when he doesn’t quite have his A game like today,” said coach Josh Daiss.
Colt Eckert tied for 17th with a score of 84 and Leyton Thayer tied for 20th with a score of 85.
“Colt and Leyton also played well by finishing in the top 20 without playing much golf recently,” said Daiss.
Blake Winter rounded out the team total, shooting a 97, good enough for 37th place.
“It’s great to get out and compete against some bigger schools in the fall. The kids who didn’t play varsity last year have put in the time during the summer, and I’m excited to see what they can do in the spring,” added Daiss.
The Ranger golf team will be back in action in April when the spring season begins.
