Robert Tesch, Sr.

Robert Carl “Bob” Tesch, Sr., was born March 23, 1945, in Bertha Minn., to Reinhard Carl and Mabel (Hall) Tesch of Long Prairie, Minn.  He was the oldest of four children.  He had a sister who died in infancy before Betty and Karen joined the family. He and his sisters were all born at the end March. He was raised in Long Prairie. He attended rural and parochial schools before going to Long Prairie High School and graduating in 1963.
Bob joined the Air Force in the Fall of 1963. After basic training he was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base (South Dakota) as a cook at the Minuteman Missile Sites east of the base.
Bob married Patricia Hall in August 1966. He was sent to Vietnam in January 1967. He spent the next nine months cooking at Cameroon Bay, Vietnam.  He returned to the U.S. in October 1967 and left the Air Force. He was very proud that he served in the Vietnam War. He was a dedicated patriot to the USA for the rest of his life.
Bob and Patty made their home in Rapid City, S.D. They had Bob Jr, Denny and Alisa.
Bob worked in the Rapid City area for several years, then moved to the Hermosa, S.D., area. They were divorced in 1979.
Bob worked on two different dairies for 14 years before moving to Custer, S.D., to work for the Custer School District for 22 years as a custodian. He retired in 2009.
Bob married Marguerite “Peg” Eley May 11, 1990. When they married, they each received the precious gift of additional children to the family. Bob even became a grandfather when they married. They both loved their blended families.
Bob loved gardening, which was difficult in Custer with short growing seasons and deer population, but he didn’t give up.
Upon moving to Hermosa in 2012, he was known for his raised vegetable garden and his 48-foot long flower garden along with mowing lawns.
In February of 2020 Bob, Peg and their dog, Georgia, moved to Holiday Hills Community in Rapid City. In December 2022 Peg moved to Arrowhead Lodge in Rapid City while Bob was in rehab at Fountain Springs. Peg continues to live at Arrowhead Lodge.
Bob passed away peacefully at Ft. Meade VA Medical Center, Sturgis, S.D., July 5, 2023. He was 78.
