Webster, Jaure coaches of the year

Custer High School head wrestling coach Jared Webster and assistant coach Skylar Jaure were recently named the Region 4B coach of the year and South Dakota assistant wrestling coach of the year, respectively.
The awards were presented during the state AAU wrestling tournament and come from the South Dakota Wrestling Coaches Association. Webster’s award for region coach of the year was voted on by the other coaches in the region.
Coach Webster said that he was “excited” by the award, but “more excited about how the team performed.”
Jaure also gave credit to the wrestlers for the great season, saying they “have a lot of heart.”
The awards come at the end of a record-breaking season for the Wildcat wrestling team. After winning both the Black Hills Conference and Region tournaments, the team sent a record 14 wrestlers to the state tournament and went on to earn fourth place, the highest the team has ever placed.
“It was a fun season,” said Jaure.
The triumphant season is not only a result of the talent and dedication of the wrestlers, but also of the hard work and care of the coaches.
Webster and Jaure each have their own styles of coaching, but they “balance each other out,” said Jaure.
Webster also praised Jaure, whose award was out of the entire state, for both classes A and B.
“It makes me excited to have someone like that for our team and in the community,” said Webster. “[Jaure] puts in a lot of work behind the scenes.”
Webster also spoke highly of the other coaches who contribute to the team.
“I’m proud of all our coaches,” said Webster, noting how they each “take their time to give back to the kids.”
