Wildcats strike gold in match with ’Diggers
The Custer High School Wildcats played their last regular season match of the volleyball season Oct. 29, and came away with a win against the Lead-Deadwood Golddiggers in straight sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-13).
Head coach Jill Hohn said was happy with how the team perfomed in the match and that she thought the girls played well.
“Our passing, serving, and hitting was better that it had been the last few games. Our energy level was also up and it is wonderful to see smiles on their faces,” said Jill Hohn.
The girls played a bit of the first match in a deficit to the Diggers but were able to come back to win the set and each one after.
“We started a little slow the first set but we able to bounce back and finish strong,” said Hohn.
Jordyn Larsen had 13 kills, 11 digs and a 100 percent serving percentage in the game.
Taylor Bland also had five kills, as well as a 100 percent serving percentage.
Brook Bennett had five kills. Lyncoln Robb had seven kills and Ava Hohn had three kills. Kylee Pulscher contributed 31 assists and five digs.
Kylee Ellerton had 12 digs, Ava Jaure had eight digs as did Kayda Hanis.
On Tuesday, the girls played their first region match with Belle Fourche, and results were not available as of printing this issue. Hohn shared their strategy to get the most out of the first round of matches.
“We are really focusing on control and taking advantages of opportunities to the first ball kills and push points. We have also been talking a lot about confidence and coming on the court ready to play with an attitude that we will dominate and execute what we set out to achieve,” said Hohn.
The team has played Belle Fourche earlier in the season and come away with wins, but still the team is taking it one game at a time and is focused on repeating its previous success.
“We need to come out and play our game from the very second we step foot in that gym. It is important to have a good warm up and to be prepared for the game, both physically and mentally. We are really going to focus all of our attention on the Belle Fourche game and not get ahead of ourselves,” said Hohn.
