Former compound listed on Airbnb

If you’ve ever wanted to stay the night at the former Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS) compound in Custer County, you’re in luck.
The former compound, built in 2005 by FLDS self-proclaimed prophet Warren Jeffs is listed on the airbnb.com website, or at least some of it is.
The listing is listed as new in Custer, South Dakota, and listed as “Private Room in Rustic Cabin.”
The listing describes “your own room in a home, plus access to shared spaces.” The listing also says the room has a king bed, shared bathroom and other guests may be there. The rooms rent for $52 per night.
There are five photos with the listing, two that show the room, one that shows the bathroom, one that shows the outside of the building and one that shows two signs that have been erected directing people to “4-Plex” and “Red  Sands Ridge Lodge.”
The property was sold in May for $5,237,475 by Blue Mountain Ranch, LLC to SDR Training Center, a nonprofit church registered in South Dakota May 16 of this year.
The name and address of the incorporator on the  Secretary of State’s Office filing documents is Hyrum Keddington, whose address is the same as the FLDS compound. Keddington is also listed as a director, as are Jewel Stone and LaDonna Nichols, both of whom have a Salt Lake City, Utah, address.
A search of the address listed in Salt Lake City shows a variety of different businesses operating out of that location.
According to warranty deed filed at the Custer County Register of Deeds, Blue Mountain Ranch, LLC, lists members as Andrew Chatwin, Patrick Pipkin and Claude Seth Cooke, the three men who had the highest bid for the compound at a 2021 auction after a judge ordered the FLDS to sell the property.
Pipkin, Chatwin and Cooke purchased the property for $750,000, and did so by bidding against $1.7 million in judgments they were owed by the FLDS, a debt stemming from a federal lawsuit they filed after they were illegally arrested and harassed by the FLDS in the towns of Hildale, Utah and Colorado City, Ariz., two FLDS strongholds also referred to as Short Creek.
After the auction, Pipkin said in a meeting with the press that he grew up in Colorado City and Hildale, and ironically, was part of the FLDS group who helped facilitate the purchase of the Custer County property for the FLDS in 2006. The three are former FLDS members who declared the FLDS corruption had come to an end as part of their acquisition of the land.
In 2022 Blue Mountain Ranch, LLC, listed the property for sale, with an asking price of $6.9 million. KELOLAND news first reported the property was under contract with a buyer in May.
KELOLAND reported at that time that the mortgage, dated May 19, records Blue Mountain Ranch, LLC, as having borrowed SDR Training Center $3,437,475 via private loan. The report also states there is a 0 percent interest rate on the loan. The mortgage agreement states the church will be responsible for making 120 monthly payments of $21,000 to Blue Mountain Ranch. Those payments began in June.
