10 years ago, 2015 —Shawn Robertson, Mickayla Little, Sam Nelson, Mackenzie Laverick, Hannah Neugebauer, Alex Engstrom, Laura Zaic and  Bailee McMillian were set to perform the play “The Romanian Uranium Mystery” during the One Acts performances...Phil Lampert of Walk in the Woods in Custer and Brian and Kristy Lintz of Lintz Bros. Pizza in Hermosa were among the business owners and operators who served as business delegates for a legislative forum sponsored by the South Dakota Retailers Association (SDRA) in Pierre. Lampert was also a past president of the organization.

HAHA holds annual meeting

The Hermosa Arts and History Association (HAHA) held its annual member meeting to elect officers and appoint board members Jan. 11 after a potluck lunch and conversation.
Dan Martin was elected president, Tamara Rogers was elected vice president, Leta Campbell remained treasurer and Cathy Dahl remained secretary. Board members are Beverly Brophy Groth, Linda M. Hasselstrom, Marsha Knopf, Charlotte Lussier and Shelley Martin.

Thursday, Jan. 23
1:13 a.m.: A dog-sitter on Dakota Pine Road called to report a strange vehicle idling in a driveway. Deputies investigated, finding a 38-year-old Custer male slumped over the wheel. After rousing the male, deputies arrested him for driving under the influence of alcohol, second offense. It wasn’t clear why the male had chosen this particular driveway to take an (allegedly) drunken nap.

9:16 p.m.: A resident on Hwy. 16/385 north of Custer reported a drone had been following her for months. Deputies checked the area, but found no dastardly drones. Is the truth out there?

10 years ago, 2015 — Six former Custer High School athletes and coaches made up the first class of the Custer Athletic Hall of Fame.  The six were inducted during a ceremony during halftime of the Custer High School boys basketball game against Hill City.

Thursday, Jan. 2
5:07 p.m.: A person called 911 to report a car driving at a high rate of speed on Custer’s north 5th Street with a “butcher knife hanging out of the trunk.” A deputy found the car and determined the “knife” was a fabric strap that got slammed in the trunk.
