Community can sample a piano showcase in Keystone

The public is invited to attend a free music service at the First Congregational Church of Keystone. Doug Heck will perform original music and pieces in a piano compositions showcase.
Heck grew up in a musical family. His father played the guitar and the ukulele in addition to directing the church choir. His mother, he says, was “pretty good on the piano” specializing in playing church  hymns. He and his siblings were in band and choir and were “fortunate to take lessons for voice and any instruments we showed an interest in,” he said.

10 years ago, 2014 — A $2,000 reward was being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the latest—and probably most expensive—in a string of burglaries that have occurred in and around Custer. The money was being offered by the victims of the most recently discovered burglary, who had thousands of dollars in merchandise stolen out of their cabin...Thanksgiving was a little bit different for Custer High School senior cheerleader Kendall Ashmore.

Plans for daycare in Hermosa

Good things are on the horizon for the growing Town of Hermosa, as is evidenced through establishment of new businesses and neighborhoods and a general buzz of activity around the town. From the museum re-opening earlier this year, to the second successful Hermosa Huckster, to the packed Hermosa Coffee House, full of both familiar and new faces, many say it has been a good year to be in Hermosa.

Tuesday, Nov. 5
12:47 p.m.: A person called 911 to report a Custer hardware store was mysteriously closed. The store in question had actually moved to another building on the same street. Calls like this are probably not what the inventors of the 911 emergency line had in mind.      

Museum on track to bring Christmas spirit to the heart of the hills

The 15th annual Trees and Trains exhibit is just around the corner. The annual South Dakota State Railroad Museum(SDSRM) fundraiser gives Hill City and area community members and visitors an opportunity to stroll through a Christmas wonderland filled with nostalgia of days gone past, train memorabilia, model trains, Christmas trees, and, of course, an opportunity to  visit with Santa.
Museum director Rick Mills said there are over 20 trees on display this year, including many new participants.

The library will be closed Dec. 25-9 and Jan. 1. We want to wish you a Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with countless blessings!
We are doing inventory making room for new library materials that we will order in 2025.
