‘Out in Rural America’ is out after six years

Fiona Willis devoted six years of her life to making a film that highlights the plight of the LGBTQ+ community in rural America, particularly South Dakota.
That doesn’t mean she made the film for the LGBTQ+ community.
No, the film, entitled “Out in Rural America,” is aimed at people who don’t understand the struggles the LGBTQ+ community faces, or people who may even direct anger or bigotry toward the community.
Willis hopes by watching the film, people will understand the LGBTQ+ community is just like them.

Sushi may not be the first thing you think about when shopping at Lynn’s, but now you can safely add it to your list. Thanks to the work of store manager, Barry Bowar, and Family Fresh Sushi, the dynamic duo of Freddy and Tony are preparing fresh sushi daily for locals and tourists alike.
According to Tony Bik, the sous chef who works under owner, Freddy Hlang, sales so far have been very good and the word is spreading rapidly. The small sushi kitchen  is set up near the deli and bakery offerings and the display case is packed full of delicious creations.

3:36 p.m.: A deputy assisted fire units with a burning tree ignited by a lightning strike on Custer Limestone Road.
7:40 p.m.: A deputy dealt with an unruly teenager on Renegade Pass Road.
8:59 p.m.: A calf was reportedly on the wrong side of a Sidney Park Road fence. It soon got back in with its mama.

The 911 Misdial of the Day: “Motor noise and music” were heard over the emergency line. It sounded like a good time.

Many South Dakotans feel that democracy is not working very well in America right now, but those same people are highly supportive of their own right to make law directly from the voting booth.
According to a recent statewide poll, a wide majority of South Dakota residents supports the citizen-led ballot-initiative process as a way to make laws or change the state constitution, and a significant majority said they don’t want the state Legislature to make the process more difficult.

Jewel Cave begins summer operations

Jewel Cave National Monument will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily effective May 30. Limited walk-in/walk-out tours of the cave will resume that day while repair work continues on the elevator.
